Wooden Salt Cellar - Handmade Solid Walnut Salt Cellar with Maple and Cherry Inlays and Maple Lid

£50.00
Handmade solid Walnut salt cellar with maple and cherry inlays and maple lid. Sometimes referred to as salt pigs or piglets, these wooden salt cellars were designed with a contemporary and almost Japanese inspired look in mind, inspired by the designs of David Lindley. Capable of holding plenty of salt (or a spice of your choosing), they also come with a custom made Maple lid. The lid is not hinged or attached to the piece, and this is by design - I find that if you are cooking frequently then it is easier to leave the lid off completely, rather than having to repeatedly open a hinged lid with potentially dirty hands. Both cellar and lid are finished in food safe hard oil finishes to repel dirt, increase strength, and to aid in easy cleaning - I'm confident these cellars would hold up to hard use in a busy kitchen.

Note - There are 3 cellars for sale, all the same design, but one of them has a slim line lid for those who may prefer this look. Please take careful note of which you are adding to your cart.

Exterior cellar size 12cm x 12cm x 4.5cm (3.5cm interior depth)
Maple lid size 10cm x 10cm x (3cm (thick)) or (1.8cm (slim))

Packaging:
I ship my products in high-security dent resistant packaging, so your purchase should reach you looking fresh from the workshop. All my packaging is either made of 100% recycled material, or is 100% recyclable (or both!).

Aftercare:
Wooden products can last for decades if looked after properly. It is unlikely a salt cellar will require much cleaning, but if you find it is required, wash gently with warm soapy water and towel dry. Never place the cellar or lid in the dishwasher, and never leave them soaking in water for an extended period of time - both of these actions can result in the removal of the protective finishes. This allows water to reach the raw wood, potentially causing staining, warping, and even splitting. Also, make sure to avoid the cellar or lid getting in contact with high heat (such as the bottom of a hot pan) as this can cause scorch marks. Finally, any wood with any finish will deteriorate and fade over time if exposed to high UV radiation, so for longevity I suggest placing the cellar in a location that is not in direct sunlight for extended periods per day.

Shipping:
Items are sent via Royal Mail or equivalent carrier. Currently I do not ship internationally and only fulfill orders to the UK, this may change if there is particular interest.
